   ANALYSTS|Search

The Analysts Search feature allows you to search StarMine's analyst database across multiple dimensions in order to generate a list of analysts meeting the criteria you specify. If you specify more than one criterion, analysts must pass all of the criteria in order to be returned in the search results. For example, if you enter "Smith" in the Analyst box and "MSFT US" in the Ticker box, your results will be limited to analysts who are named Smith and who cover Microsoft.

If you are searching for analysts that write Strategy or Economic Research, do not specify any criteria outside of Analyst Name or Broker.

At the top of the page you specify the criteria for which you are searching for analysts:
  • The Analyst Name input box allows you to enter all or part of an analyst's last name in order to find analysts whose name matches the text you entered. You cannot specify more than one analyst in this box. If you want to search the analyst database by criteria other than analyst name, you should leave the Analyst Name box blank.
  • The Broker input box allows you to search for analysts at a particular broker. You cannot specify more than one broker in this box. If you want to search the analyst database by criteria other than broker, you should leave the Broker box blank.
  • To search for analysts writing primarily strategy or economic research, check the checkbox labeled "Analysts that write Strategy or Economic research". Adding these analysts to your list of Favorite Analysts will enable you to receive strategy research via StarBox.
  • The Analyst Ratings section allows you to include a performance component in your search.
    • You can restrict your search to analysts whose Overall Recommendation star rating (based on the analysts' Coverage Relative Rating) for the time period you specify is at least 5 stars or at least 4 stars.
    • You can restrict your search to analysts whose Overall Estimate star rating for the time period you specify is at least 5 stars or at least 4 stars.
    • You can further restrict a search by specifying minimum ratings for both Recommendations and Estimates.
    • If you want to search the analyst database by criteria other than analyst performance, you should leave the dropdowns set to "Any Rating".
  • The dropdowns for Sector and Industry enable you to restrict your search to analysts who cover (with an active recommendation) at least one stock in a specified sector or industry. Stocks are grouped into sectors and industries according to the GICS system. If you want to search the analyst database by criteria other than the sectors or industries that analysts cover, you should leave both dropdowns set to "All".
  • The Region dropdown allows you to restrict your search to analysts who cover (with an active recommendation) at least one stock in a specified region. An analyst's stocks are categorized into regions based on their Security Country, not their Home Country. If you want to search the analyst database by criteria other than the regions of the stocks that analysts cover, you should leave the dropdown set to "All".
  • The Tickers area allows you to restrict your search to analysts actively covering (with a recommendation) at least one of the securities from a list that you specify.
    • You can specify a large group of securities by selecting a stock set, or you can specify one or more securities manually by typing them into the ticker input box. If you specify multiple securities manually, you must separate the tickers by commas or semicolons.
    • When manually specifying a security outside of your home country, remember to include the stock's two-letter country code after the exchange ticker (e.g., CBRY LN).
    • If you want to search the analyst database by criteria other than ticker you should leave the Tickers input box blank.
    • The "Lookup" link allows you to find a security's ticker when you only know the company name.
For each analyst that passes your criteria, the Search Results displays the following:
  • A blue "X" appears in the left-most column if an analyst has no estimates or recommendations on any securities.
  • An orange "X" appears if an analyst has not published any research on any securities in the past 6 months.
  • Analyst: the name of the analyst in the form Last, First.
  • Broker: the name of the analyst's broker.
  • Recs: the analyst's overall (i.e., all-stock) star rating for recommendation performance over the indicated time period.
  • Estimates: the analyst's overall (i.e., all-stock) star rating for estimate performance over the indicated time period.
  • Industry Coverage: the industry into which the largest number of the analyst's stocks belong. An ellipsis (i.e., "") is shown when the analyst's stocks belong to two or more industries. Industry Coverage is based on current coverage, not historical coverage.
  • Regions: one or more two-letter codes indicating the region or regions in which the largest number of the analyst's stocks belong. An ellipsis (i.e., "") is shown when the analyst's stocks fall into three or more regions. Regions are based on an analyst's current coverage, not historical coverage; stocks are categorized into regions based on their Security Country, not their Home Country.
  • A green "F" appears if an analyst is on your Favorite Analysts list.
  • A red "E" appears if an analyst is on your Excluded Analysts list.
For each of the analysts in your search results, a check box is provided on the far right that allows you to select the analyst to add him or her to either your Favorite Analysts or your Excluded Analysts. The "Check All" and "Clear All" links provide useful shortcuts for selecting analysts. Once you have selected one or more analysts, clicking the "Add Checked to Favorites" will add the selected analysts to your Favorite Analysts list; clicking the "Add Checked to Excluded" will add the selected analysts to your Excluded Analysts list.
