Aggregate Estimate Diffusion. A measure of the trend in analyst estimate revisions for the set during a given time period. Diffusion is defined as (aggregate # revising up - aggregate # revising down) / (# total revisions), and ranges from -1 to 1. For example, if 21 analysts revised their estimates upward for stocks in a given sector and 4 revised downward during the last 30 days, the 30-day diffusion for the sector is (21-4)/25 = 0.68. Requires Broker Module permissions.

Only securities with values for both inputs are included in the aggregate calculations. Requires Broker Module permissions.

Recommendations

Aggregate Recommendation Mean. The Aggregate Recommendation Mean is calculated just as is the stock-level Recommendation Mean, as a weighted average of the (in this case, aggregate) number of recommendations at each level. The number of recommendations at each level (from 1 for Strong Buy to 5 for Strong Sell) is aggregated across the set of securities in question, and the Aggregate Recommendation Mean then calculated as a weighted average of these inputs. Lower values thus represent more optimistic overall recommendation levels.

Recommendation Diffusion . A measure of the trend in analyst recommendation changes during a given time period. Recommendation Diffusion is defined as (# upgrades - # downgrades) / (# total recommendation changes), and ranges from -1 to 1. For example, if four analysts upgraded their recommendations and one downgraded during the last 30 days, the 30-day diffusion is (4-1)/5 = 0.6.

Number of Strong Buy Recommendations. The number of current broker recommendations on the security that are Strong Buy or the equivalent.

Number of Buy Recommendations. The number of current broker recommendations on the security that are Buy or the equivalent.

Number of Hold Recommendations. The number of current broker recommendations on the security that are Hold or the equivalent.

Valuation — Intrinsic

Please Note:
The StarMine Intrinsic Valuation model currently excludes companies with negative earnings in FY1 and FY2. Aggregate fields in the Valuation — Intrinsic category thus exclude companies with negative earnings in FY1 and FY2.

In addition, given the approach to discount rates used in the model, Intrinsic Value fields that involve discount rates (Price / Intrinsic Value and Warranted P/E) should not be compared between countries to select over/under valued countries. Fields that do not involve the discount rate (Forward 10-Year EPS CAGR) may be used in cross-country comparisons.

Price / Intrinsic Value. The ratio of the aggregate market cap using the previous day's market close price to the aggregate implied market cap using the Intrinsic Value for each security, as calculated by the StarMine valuation model using the StarMine SmartGrowth EPS projections as inputs. Only securities with values for both inputs are included in the aggregate calculations. Requires Fundamental Module permissions.

Forward 5-Year EPS CAGR. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of earnings using the aggregate earnings in FY0 (GAAP reported or IBES Actual if GAAP not available) and FY5 (as forecast by the SmartGrowth model). Only securities with earnings figures for both periods are included in the aggregate calculations. Requires Fundamental Module permissions.

Warranted P/E. The ratio of the aggregate market cap of the set, using the StarMine SmartGrowth Intrinsic Value divided by the sum of the aggregate F12M earnings as forecast by the StarMine SmartGrowth model. Only securities with values for both inputs are included in the aggregate calculations. Requires Fundamental Module permissions.

Forward 10-Year EPS CAGR. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of earnings using the aggregate earnings in FY0 (GAAP reported or IBES Actual if GAAP not available) and FY10 (as forecast by the SmartGrowth model). Only securities with earnings figures for both periods are included in the aggregate calculations. Requires Fundamental Module permissions.

IV Market Implied 10Year EPS CAGR. This figure expresses the market's expectations for the average growth over the next ten years for constituent companies as determined by the StarMine Intrinsic Valuation model. The figure is calculated by aggregating FY0 earnings and the Market Implied FY10 earnings of constituent companies. A company's Market Implied FY10 is obtained by proportionally raising or lowering FY1 through FY5 EPS figures until the resulting Intrinsic Value matches the previous day's market close price. Requires Fundamental Module permissions.

IV Market Implied 5Year EPS CAGR. This figure expresses the market's expectations for the average growth over the next five years for constituent companies as determined by the StarMine Intrinsic Valuation model. The figure is calculated by aggregating FY0 earnings and the Market Implied FY5 earnings of constituent companies. A company's Market Implied FY5 is obtained by proportionally raising or lowering FY1 through FY5 EPS figures until the resulting Intrinsic Value matches the previous day's market close price. Requires Fundamental Module permissions.

Valuation — Relative

Aggregate SmartEstimate Price Ratio. The aggregate market cap of the set divided by the sum of the SmartEstimate for the selected estimate type. Only securities with values for both price and the SmartEstimate for the selected estimate type are included in the aggregate calculations. Exception: for companies with significant analyst coverage, for the estimate type of dividends only, null values are generally considered zero and market caps are included in aggregate calculations. Requires Broker Module permissions.

Aggregate Yield % (SmartEstimate). The sum of the SmartEstimate for the selected estimate type divided by the aggregate market cap of the set. Using the "Dividends" estimate type, for example, produces an aggregate dividend yield. All per-share estimates are converted to a non-per-share basis before aggregation. Only securities with values for both price and the SmartEstimate for the selected estimate type are included in the aggregate calculations.
