   CONFIGURE|General Preferences

The General Preferences page allows you to customize your StarMine Professional account by establishing your personal preferences. If you make a change on the General Preferences page, you must click Submit to make the new settings effective.

The preferences you can set include:
  • Default Country Code: This feature allows you to save any two-letter country code (e.g., US, LN, or JP) as your implied country code whenever you enter a ticker without a country code. Most users choose to enter the country code of the country whose tickers they enter into StarMine Professional most frequently.

  • Benchmark on Charts: This dropdown allows you to specify the benchmark index that you would like to see plotted on the charts throughout the product

    • The choice "Country" refers to a market capitalization-weighted benchmark of all securities with the same Home Country as the selected security.
    • The choice "Industry" refers to a market capitalization-weighted benchmark of all securities in the same GICS industry and region as the selected security. A security's region is a function of its Home Country for benchmark purposes.

After setting the benchmark here on the Preferences page you must make sure that you have chosen to show the benchmark on the charts themselves; users have the option of hiding the benchmark if they are only interested in absolute price movements.

  • Ticker Section Default Page: This dropdown allows you to specify which page of the Ticker section that you want to view each time you visit the Ticker section from somewhere else in the product. Once you are inside the Ticker section, if you change the Ticker page manually then enter a new ticker, the page you last viewed for the previous ticker will continue to be shown. But if you leave the Ticker section, the next time you return to the Ticker section, we will once again use the Default Page setting to determine which page will initially be chosen for you to view.

  • User Data Directory: This is the location on your computer or company network where data files exported from StarMine will be saved. Entering the full path in this text box tells StarMine where to send the backtest export file and data you request from the Interactive Chart.

  • Export Format: This switch allows you to choose how you want StarMine to format the files that are created when you export data from StarMine Professional. This switch also drives the decimal separator used in data returned by the Excel Add-in.

Your choice with respect to this switch will typically be a function of your preferences for viewing data in Microsoft Excel. If you have set up Excel to format values using a period as the decimal indicator, you will want to choose the option "*.csv (comma delimited, period decimal)". When you choose this format, export files will be delimited using commas, and periods will be used in the middle of values as the decimal indicator. If, instead, you have set up Excel to format values using a comma as the decimal indicator, you will want to choose the option "*.csv (semicolon delimited, comma decimal)". Under this format, export files will be delimited using semicolons, and commas will be used in the middle of values as the decimal indicator.

  • Data Source: If you have been given access to StarMine using both the I/B/E/S data feed and the First Call data feed, you can select which data feed you want used. Most users will not see this item because they are set up for the preferred I/B/E/S.

The General Preferences page also provides a link for changing your user password. You need to have your current password to change and you can use any alphanumeric characters of any practical length. Please remember that passwords are case sensitive. If you have forgotten your password, please use the Contact StarMine link provided at the bottom of the Change Password page and request that your password be reset.
